In Memoriam
It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Dr. Michael Adams, who served as Director of the Dobie-Paisano Writers-in-Residence Program from 2007-2022. A former UT English professor and Associate Director of the Michener Center for Writers, Michael was an accomplished educator, author, and visual artist. His works include the novels Anniversaries in the Blood and Blind Man’s Bluff, as well as his ‘Neon Cowboy ‘series of oil paintings, inspired by the Austin honky-tonk scene and subsequently exhibited at the 1979 Governor’s Inaugural Ball. Michael was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including a Fulbright Award, the Liberal Arts Council Teaching Award, and election to the Academy of Distinguished Teachers and the Texas Institute of Letters. Those who knew him inevitably admired his vast trove of knowledge, his gentlemanly kindness, and his willingness to give freely of himself for the benefit of students and colleagues. He will be sorely missed.
